Hi,

I used to play chess back in highschool, at the blind school. They used a chess board with the holes for the pieces. I Have tried to find this specific type again and I can only find the cheap plastic kind and the pieces don't stay in very securely. The one back in school was wooden and it folded for storage and the pieces had a compartment for storing them as well. If anyone knows what I'm talking about and knows where I could get one, please let me know.
Thank you,

Jen

Hi Jen:

I didn't know you played chess. I don't like the newer designs of pieces either. Have you tried the usual places like maxiaids or ila? I donated my board to the blind unit at the center, and it has fallen apart. I'm almost sorry I did, now.

Good luck.

Lou

I've checked ila, but they seem to only have the cheap plastic design. I haven't tried maxi aids, do you have that site address?
Thanks,

Jen

Ok, I actually have the maxiaids cite, and I looked on there. There appears to be a travel chess set that, from the description, sounds like the one. But it doesn't say what it's made of. But after I move, I'll get it.
Thanks lou,

Jen

Thanks. That's a neat company, although I never bought anything from there. I really like their mission.

Also for people from the UK the RNIB seams to sell them.
http://onlineshop.rnib.org.uk/
They can also export abroad but if there are sites that sell them in the USA it will be cheeper i guess to get them from there.

I have one more site for you. If you go the www.braillebookstore.com you will find travel-size and regular-sized chess sets. They are made of wood and are made to last.

The Hadley School has those, but you have to take the course in order to keep it, unfortunately.
